Wedding Planner by SummitSoft is a middle of the road program that includes many of the essentials required to assist any bride–to–be in her wedding planning. Including, entering your guest list, planning your budget and tracking vendors. Additionally, it has a few unique features like choosing your colors and an extensive attendants section.
Although you can not import or export your contact list, creating one in Wedding Planner is very easy. You simply add a guest, their companion’s name and which events they are invited to. You can choose from a list of various invitation wordings depending on your relationship to that guest. Some invitees you may want to use formal language whereas, others a casual approach may be more appropriate. However, you cannot track guest accommodations for those traveling from out of town.
Similar to the #3 product, Wedding Planner allows you to visually arrange the reception including where tables will be places along with the DJ, dance floor, gift table and more. Additionally, this feature can be used for multiple events like the rehearsal dinner, ceremony or bachelor party.
We found the advisor section to be an interesting feature. It is like having a marriage counselor directly on your computer. It includes a lot of useful information and suggestions including chapters “like where to begin,” “developing your budget,” “Bride/Groom essentials” and “life after marriage.”
The budget and vendors sections are interrelated and integrated into each other. You can add and select vendors directly in the budget section. This is a convenient feature and there is even a section that allows you to “rate” your vendor on a scale of one to five; for future reference we suppose.
The budget wizard gives you a lot of information about how much items typically cost depending on your extravagance. However, it would not automatically transfer to the traditional budget screen. In order for your suggested budgeted items to appear in the overview screen you have to choose to “apply” them, but the “apply” button is only available in a select number of sections like cakes, flowers and gifts. Even then it only appears on some selections. Sections that do not include an “apply” button are attire, accessories and ceremony. This section while helpful is incomplete.
Although SummitSoft’s Wedding Planner is an adequate program there were several sections that would not work properly including the calendar feature and a few unique to this piece of software. Wedding Planner includes a few unique features like the WedConnect and Resources section, but when we tried to use these both failed to work correctly. The WedConnect feature is designed to allow others to access your database like the wedding coordinator or the mother of the bride or groom, through the Internet, but every time we accessed this feature the program stopped responding.
Theoretically, the resources section is a great idea. The program has compiled several vendor suggestions, phone numbers and contacts common to weddings including floral shops, retailers and jewelers. When you double click on a suggested vendor a webpage is suppose to open, but every suggestion we selected went to a dead webpage. Our browser could not display the information.
We installed a minor version upgrade, suggested by the company, but this did not rectify the problem.
We found one of Wedding Planner’s weakest features was the inability to print various screens or reports. You could print your guest list and gifts, but you could not print your budget or menus. This could be frustrating when trying to communicate these needs to others.
We found SummitSoft’s customer support the be sub par. They include a live chat feature online, but it was frequently set to “away;” additionally, when we called our voice messages were never returned. When we were finally able to contact live support the representative on the other end tried to be helpful; however, our problem was left unresolved.
