Let your wedding stress melt away and say “I do” with iDo, “TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award” winning wedding planning software. iDo’s easy–to–use interface; comprehensive invitation, budget and RSVP tracking; versatile seating layout; and more than 100 printable reports make it one of the best wedding planning programs on the market.
iDo has several unique planning and tracking features not found in any other wedding planning software we reviewed. It has ability to catch duplicate names imported to your guest list, assign RSVP numbers to your guests, map your vendor’s location through MapQuest, swap whole tables in the seating section and reword your invitations using one of iDo’s 18 scenarios.
Although iDo is the best wedding planning software we could find, it was still missing a few key features, like a comprehensive calendar feature, printable stationary options or a place to create a music play list.
iDo has one of the best invitation and contact sections we reviewed. By importing your contacts from Outlook or a CSV file, you can easily place additional information about your friends and family including travel accommodations and children. The software can track if you’ve sent an invitation, assign a RSVP Id and separate guests into an A or B guest list.
Additionally, iDo includes 18 different invitation announcements for various wedding circumstances like if the bride and groom’s parents are divorced or widowed. However, you cannot print any of the invitations directly from the program. You would have to copy and paste the wording into a word processor.
The budget section is weak compared to some of the lower ranked products. The main screen displays an item’s actual price and due dates, but they do not show a budgeted price or variance. Instead of a price variance, it displays the percentage of budget spent on a particular item. Budgeted prices are organized by section, like flowers or fashion, not individual items, like centerpieces or wedding gown.
We found the budget section and vendors section to work closely with each other, which makes it easy to view specific vendors or add additional ones while in the budget screen. For example, if you are placing your expenses into the program, but forgot to add the vendor for a specific item simply click the “+” button in the details screen and the vendor box will pop up. Many of the lower ranked products force you to leave the budget section, go directly to the vendors section, add the information, then go back to the budget section. This usually just results in frustration.
iDo incorporates a unique feature into their vendor information box. When you place a vendor’s address in the address box, you can link directly to MapQuest for directions. Additionally, when you insert an email address, the program can open your Outlook or if you place a web address you can go directly to the vendor’s website. These are all features that add to iDo’s user friendliness.
We were disappointed that this software didn’t include a calendar feature. They do have an extensive checklist that includes common pre–wedding tasks preloaded. It would have been nice to include a daily and monthly calendar to work with the task list. Additionally, we would have liked to see the checklist have the ability to sort tasks by timeframe and responsibility. For example, the bride could give the groom, best man and maid of honor a list of tasks assigned to them.
You can record your gifts and who they were given by and you can track if you’ve sent them a thank you. The software does not have the ability to create and track a gift registry.
iDo has a unique and interesting seating feature. You can place your tables according to how you want it arranged. Then drag and drop your guests to their assigned seats. Although it is not as fancy as Marziplanner, this was one of the easiest seating sections we found.
iDo includes some of the best reports we found. You can print just about anything recorded in the program including full guest lists, RSVPs, menu, gifts, checklists, budget and vendors. All reports are exported into Word or an RTF file.
